Import trades from Dhan

Download the Trade History CSV from Journal by Dhan and upload it to VEXA; company names are mapped to NSE and BSE tickers for you.

What this does

Brings Dhan trades into VEXA from the Trade History export in Journal by Dhan.

This is a manual file import, not an API connection to Dhan.

Before you start

  • Dhan is manual upload only. Export a fresh CSV whenever you want to update your journal. VEXA never asks for your Dhan login or a DhanHQ API key.
  • The report is Past Trades, not Profit & Loss. The P&L report is a different layout and cannot be imported as fills.
  • Times are IST. India does not observe daylight saving, so there is nothing to configure.
  • The file has no charges in it. Dhan’s Trade History carries no brokerage, STT or GST columns, so VEXA imports your P&L before charges and marks each trade’s cost as unknown rather than pretending it was zero.
  • Overlapping ranges are safe. Duplicate fills are skipped when a new export overlaps one you already uploaded.

Steps

  1. Sign in at web.dhan.co.
  2. Click the Profile icon (top right) and select Journal by Dhan.
  3. Click Past Trades.
  4. Choose a custom date range (From – To) covering the period you want to import.
  5. Download as CSV. The file is named TRADE_HISTORY_CSV_…csv.
  6. In VEXA, choose Dhan, then Manual upload, and upload the file unchanged.

Company names become tickers

Dhan’s export lists each fill by company name (Tech Mahindra, HDFC Bank) and has no ticker or ISIN column. VEXA maps those names to their exchange tickers (TECHM, HDFCBANK) using Dhan’s own instrument master, so fills group into the right trades and the price chart can find the symbol. A name VEXA does not recognise is imported under a readable symbol built from the name; tell us and we will add it.

Delivery sells are not shorts

A DELIVERY sell with no matching buy in the file is almost always stock you bought before the export window. VEXA treats it as a settlement and leaves it out of your trades rather than opening a short position. If you want those round trips journaled, export a range that starts before the purchase.

Limits and gotchas

  • P&L is before charges. Compare against Dhan’s Realised P&L with charges in mind, or use the cost field once you know your brokerage.
  • Trade Price is rounded, Trade Value is exact. VEXA books the exact average fill from the value column, so totals reconcile to the paisa.
  • F&O is unverified. Contract names such as SENSEX 24 SEP 68000 CALL and TIINDIA NOV FUT are recognised, and a quantity printed in lots is detected from the trade value, but no real F&O export has been through VEXA yet. Send us one if yours looks wrong.
  • CSV only. Upload the .csv file as downloaded.

What you should see

A result panel naming the Dhan Trade History format, one execution per Traded row, and intraday round trips grouped by ticker. Buy and sell totals should match the sum of Dhan’s Trade Value column exactly.

If it doesn’t work

  • “Unable to detect CSV format.” You downloaded the Profit & Loss or Ledger report, or opened and re-saved the file in a spreadsheet. Download Past Trades again as CSV and upload the original.
  • A trade is missing. Check whether it was a DELIVERY sell of shares bought before the range (see above), or whether its status in Dhan was not Traded.
  • Every trade says cost unknown. Expected. The export has no charge columns.
