Reconnect a broker that stopped syncing

What the Needs Reauth badge means, the broker-side changes that cause it, and how to restore the connection without touching your trade history.

Same on every platform Updated

What this does

Restores a broker connection VEXA has marked as broken. Your trades are not affected at any point: reconnecting replaces a credential, nothing else.

Before you start

  • Do not delete the account. Reconnecting keeps the account, its name, and its history. Deleting and re-adding gives you a second account and a re-import.
  • Have the new credential ready. Every reconnection needs something from the broker’s side, because the old one stopped working.
  • Some error messages in VEXA still say to reconnect from Settings, and there is no Settings screen. Your broker list is in Profile.

Steps

  1. In the sidebar, find the card with your name at the bottom and click View Profile.
  2. Scroll to Connected Brokers.
  3. Find the account with the amber Needs Reauth badge and Please reconnect this account under it.
  4. Click the row to open the broker page.
  5. Enter the new credential and save.
  1. On Home, tap the circular avatar at the top right.
  2. Scroll to Connected Services.
  3. Tap the account marked as needing reauthorisation.

What causes it

VEXA sets the badge when a sync fails for a reason that will not fix itself. In practice that is one of:

  • The credential expired. Interactive Brokers Flex tokens expire on the schedule you chose when you made them, and a short expiry set a year ago fails silently now. Upstox tokens expire daily.
  • You changed a password. PropReports signs in with your username and password, so a password change at your prop firm stops the sync until you update it in VEXA.
  • You revoked or rotated a key at the broker. Common on Binance, Bybit, Coinbase and Trading 212.
  • The broker changed the account’s permissions, for example an API key that lost its read permission.

A network failure or a broker outage does not set the badge. Those retry.

MetaTrader is different

MetaTrader accounts never show this badge, because VEXA does not pull from them. The Expert Advisor pushes from your terminal, so a MetaTrader connection that stops is a terminal or key problem rather than a reauthorisation. See MetaTrader troubleshooting.

What you should see

The amber badge is replaced by a green Active badge, and a sync starts. The last-sync time updates within a minute or two.

Any trades you made while the connection was broken arrive on that first sync, as long as they are inside the broker’s history window. If they are not, upload a file to cover the gap.

If it doesn’t work

  • The badge comes straight back. The new credential is being rejected too. Regenerate it at the broker and check its permissions include reading account history.
  • It connects but syncs nothing. Check the broker’s history window. Several brokers only serve the last 180 days over the API.
  • You cannot generate a new credential because the broker account is closed. Upload a final file to capture the history, then delete the connection with the keep-trades option.
