Why MetaTrader setup cannot be done on a phone

MetaTrader auto-sync needs a desktop terminal. Here is what your phone shows instead, how the handoff works, and what still works on mobile.

What this does

Choosing MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5 on a phone or tablet shows a screen saying the setup needs a desktop, with a QR code that opens the right page on a computer. There is still work you can do from the device in your hand.

Why

MetaTrader auto-sync works through the VEXA Sync Expert Advisor, a program that runs inside the MetaTrader terminal itself. The MetaTrader mobile apps cannot run Expert Advisors. MetaQuotes does not support them there, on either iOS or Android, so there is nothing for VEXA to install.

Every other broker in VEXA connects from any device. MetaTrader is the exception.

Steps

Use these to get from your phone to the right page on a computer.

  1. Tap the circular avatar at the top right of Home.
  2. Tap Connected Services.
  3. Tap Add Broker, then Select Broker.
  4. Choose MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5.
  5. Scan the QR code with the computer that runs MetaTrader, or sign in to the VEXA web app there and pick the same broker.
  1. Tap the profile chip at the bottom of the sidebar, then View Profile.
  2. Tap Connected Services.
  3. Tap Add Broker, then Select Broker.
  4. Choose MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5.

What you should see

On the computer, the MetaTrader broker page opens with the VEXA Sync API Key card, a download card for the EA file, and a live EA Connection status card. Carry on from Install the VEXA Sync Expert Advisor.

The QR code is a shortcut, not a requirement. Opening the VEXA web app on the computer and choosing the same broker lands you in exactly the same place.

What still works on your phone

  • Uploading a MetaTrader statement. If the exported file is on your phone, the upload works from the mobile apps like any other broker file. That covers a one-off backfill without touching the EA.
  • Seeing MetaTrader trades. Once the EA is running on your desktop, its trades appear everywhere you use VEXA.
  • Setting the broker server timezone, on iPhone, iPad and Android, at Profile > Settings > Broker Server Timezone. MetaTrader servers run on their own clock, so this setting decides which day each trade lands on.
