Using MetaTrader on your phone or tablet

You no longer need a desktop for MetaTrader. Automated Sync connects MT4 and MT5 from your phone or tablet; a desktop is only needed for the optional real-time Expert Advisor.

What this does

You no longer need a desktop to connect MetaTrader. Choosing MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5 on a phone or tablet opens Automated Sync, and it works entirely from the device in your hand: your broker, server, account number and investor password, nothing else. A desktop is only needed if you want the Expert Advisor instead, the real-time route.

Why the Expert Advisor still needs a desktop

The Expert Advisor runs inside the MetaTrader terminal itself. The MetaTrader mobile apps cannot run Expert Advisors. MetaQuotes does not support them there, on either iOS or Android, so there is nothing for VEXA to install. Automated Sync does not have this limitation: it connects through your broker’s servers rather than through the terminal, so it never needed a desktop in the first place.

Steps

Connect from your phone or tablet directly with Automated Sync.

  1. Tap the circular avatar at the top right of Home.
  2. Tap Connected Services.
  3. Tap Add Broker, then Select Broker.
  4. Choose MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5.
  5. Enter your broker, server, account number and investor password, choose your daily sync time, and press Connect. See Connect MetaTrader with Automated Sync.
  1. Tap the profile chip at the bottom of the sidebar, then View Profile.
  2. Tap Connected Services.
  3. Tap Add Broker, then Select Broker.
  4. Choose MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5.
  5. Enter your broker, server, account number and investor password, choose your daily sync time, and press Connect. See Connect MetaTrader with Automated Sync.

If you want the Expert Advisor instead

Look for the Expert Advisor option on the same screen. It opens a QR code you scan with the computer that runs MetaTrader, or you can sign in to the VEXA web app on that computer and choose the same broker. From there, carry on with Install the VEXA Sync Expert Advisor. The Expert Advisor is real time rather than once a day, at the cost of needing a Windows desktop with MetaTrader open.

What you should see

After connecting with Automated Sync, the account appears with an Active badge and a last-sync time, right there on your phone or tablet.

If you set up the Expert Advisor on a computer instead, its broker page shows the VEXA Sync API Key card, a download card for the EA file, and a live EA Connection status card.

What still works on your phone either way

  • Uploading a MetaTrader statement. If the exported file is on your phone, the upload works from the mobile apps like any other broker file. That covers a one-off backfill without touching either sync route.
  • Seeing MetaTrader trades. Whichever route brought them in, they appear everywhere you use VEXA.
  • Setting the broker server timezone, on iPhone, iPad and Android, at Profile > Settings > Broker Server Timezone. MetaTrader servers run on their own clock, so this setting decides which day each trade lands on.
