Connect MetaTrader with Automated Sync

What this does

Automated Sync connects MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5 straight to VEXA using your broker, server, account number and investor password. There is nothing to install and no desktop terminal required, so it works from web, iPhone, iPad, Android and an Android tablet equally. It is the route to start with for most MetaTrader accounts.

VEXA syncs your closed trades once a day at an hour you choose. VEXA Pro adds a Sync Now button for whenever you want fresh numbers in between.

Before you start

• The investor password is read only. It can never place, modify or close a trade, on any account, ever. Never enter your master password anywhere in VEXA.
• This is not real time. Automated Sync pulls once a day at the hour you pick, plus Sync Now on demand on VEXA Pro. If you want every trade to arrive the moment it closes, use the VEXA Sync Expert Advisor instead, which runs on a desktop terminal.
• Both MT4 and MT5 are supported.
• The free plan connects one MetaTrader account and gets scheduled sync only, once a day at the hour you pick. VEXA Pro adds the Sync Now button and more than one account.
• Set your broker server timezone. MetaTrader servers run on their own clock and VEXA’s default assumes GMT+2. See Set your broker server timezone.

Where to find each field

Broker company. The name of your broker, the one that issued the account. Pick it from the list, or type it if it is not there.

Server. The name shown in your MetaTrader terminal or app title bar, or on the login screen, something like ICMarkets-Live12. It is not your broker’s website address.

Account number. Your MetaTrader login number.

Investor password. A read-only password your broker sets up alongside your regular trading password. Find it in MetaTrader under Tools, then Options, then the Server tab, or in the welcome email your broker sent when you opened the account. If neither has it, set one from your broker’s client portal, most brokers let you generate an investor password there in a couple of clicks.

Steps

Choosing your daily sync time

Pick whichever hour suits you. Most traders choose an hour shortly after their trading session ends, so the day’s trades are waiting when they next open VEXA. If you run several MetaTrader accounts, spreading them across different hours is fine, each account syncs once a day at the time you set for it.

You can change the hour later from the same screen you connected on.

Sync Now

Sync Now needs VEXA Pro. On the free plan, sync runs only at your scheduled hour. On Pro, press Sync Now any time you do not want to wait for the scheduled hour. It runs immediately rather than waiting for tomorrow’s sync. There is a small daily cap on extra Sync Now presses outside your scheduled window, so use it when you actually need fresh numbers rather than as a habit.

What you should see

The account appears with an Active badge and a last-sync time. After the first sync, that time reflects your chosen hour, and it moves again the next time your scheduled sync runs or you press Sync Now.

If it doesn’t work

• The connection was rejected. Your broker rejected the investor password. Double check it against Tools > Options > Server in MetaTrader, and confirm the account number and server name match exactly, a server typo is the most common cause.
• “Server not found.” The server name has to match the one MetaTrader shows you exactly, including the region and number, ICMarkets-Live12 and ICMarkets-Live1 are different servers. Check the terminal or app title bar again.
• Today’s trades are not here yet. Automated Sync pulls once a day at your chosen hour, not the moment a trade closes. If you closed a trade after today’s sync already ran, it arrives at tomorrow’s sync, or press Sync Now to pull it in early on VEXA Pro.
• You want it faster than once a day. Automated Sync will never be real time by design. Install the VEXA Sync Expert Advisor on a desktop terminal instead.
