Remove duplicate trades
The Remove Duplicates button on the Interactive Brokers page, what the twice-daily sweep already handles, and when a duplicate is really something else.
What this does
Runs a duplicate sweep across your trades on demand. It is a repair tool, not routine maintenance: VEXA removes duplicates at import time and again on a schedule, so needing this button means something got past both.
Before you start
- The button is on the Interactive Brokers management page, on the web app only. There is no equivalent in the mobile apps.
- Check it is really a duplicate first. Two trades in the same symbol at almost the same time are often two genuine trades, especially if you scale or hedge.
- VEXA already sweeps twice a day, at 03:00 and 15:00 UTC, for accounts with recent activity. If your duplicate appeared in the last few hours, the scheduled sweep may clear it without you doing anything.
Steps
Web only
- Open Profile and expand Connected Brokers.
- Open your Interactive Brokers account.
- Scroll to Data Management.
- Click Remove Duplicates.
- Wait for it to finish, then check the trade you were worried about.
What it matches on
The same fingerprint the import-time check uses: symbol, account, entry second, exit second and quantity, with tolerance for a feed that stamps the same fill a second or two apart and for a daylight-saving hour shift.
It deliberately refuses to merge two trades that carry distinct broker position ids, even when everything else matches. On a hedging account, two positions opened in the same second on the same symbol are genuinely two trades, and the position id is what proves it.
When it will not help
- The same trade under two different accounts. That is one upload having created a second account rather than a duplicate trade. See Manage multiple broker accounts.
- The same trade with two different profit figures. Not duplicates. Usually a contract size problem on futures or options.
- A trade you know you made once but scaled into. Each scale is a fill on one trade, not several trades. Open the trade and read its execution timeline.
What you should see
The page reports what it removed. Your totals drop by the value of the removed trades and your scores recalculate.
If it removes nothing, that is a real answer: the trades you are looking at are not duplicates by any of the tests VEXA can apply, and something else is going on.
If it doesn’t work
- Duplicates keep coming back after every sync. That is a bug worth reporting. Note the broker, the symbol, whether both a sync and a file cover those dates, and contact support.
- You are on another broker and want the same button. There is not one. Contact support with the details above and the sweep can be run for you.
