The three timezones VEXA holds

The three different timezones VEXA holds, which brokers need the server one set, and where the setting lives on each device.

WebiPhoneiPadAndroid Updated

What this does

Tells VEXA what clock your broker’s export was written against, so your fills land on the right day and in the right session.

Three timezones, and people conflate all three

Broker server timezone. The clock your broker’s file is written in. Some brokers, especially forex brokers, run their servers on their own offset that matches neither you nor the market. VEXA cannot work this out from the file, so you tell it.

Display timezone. The clock your trades are shown in, everywhere in VEXA. Change it whenever you like.

Storage. Everything is stored in true UTC. Changing your display timezone never alters your data, and never needs a re-import.

Before you start

  • Only five brokers need the server timezone set: MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, Moomoo, Tiger Brokers and NinjaTrader. Every other broker stamps its export unambiguously.
  • The default for MetaTrader is GMT+2, which is the most common broker server offset and is wrong for plenty of brokers. Check yours rather than assuming.
  • To find your MetaTrader server’s clock, look at the time on any symbol in Market Watch and compare it to UTC.
  • NinjaTrader exports in whatever your platform is set to, usually Central for CME futures. Check Tools > Options > General > Time Zone inside NinjaTrader.
  • Moomoo and Tiger want the timezone of the market you trade, not the one you live in.
  • Android tablet has no broker server timezone row of its own. It is the first section of the pane the Display Timezone row opens. If that row does not respond, set it on your phone or on the web — the setting follows your account.

Steps

  1. In the sidebar, find the card with your name at the bottom and click View Profile.
  2. Scroll to Display Preferences.
  3. Set Broker Server Timezone.
  4. Set Trade Display Timezone while you are here if you have not already.
  1. On Home, tap the circular avatar at the top right.
  2. Scroll to Settings.
  3. Tap Broker Server Timezone and choose it.
  4. Tap Display Timezone and set that too if you have not already.
  1. In the sidebar, tap the profile chip at the bottom, then View Profile.
  2. Scroll to Settings.
  3. Tap Broker Server Timezone and choose it.
  4. Tap Display Timezone and set that too if you have not already.
  1. On Home, tap the circular avatar at the top right.
  2. Scroll to Settings.
  3. Tap Broker Server Timezone and choose it.
  4. Tap Display Timezone and set that too if you have not already.

You can also set it inline on the upload screen: the timezone dropdown sits on the Manual Upload tab next to the file picker.

The web instructions say “the dropdown below” and there is no dropdown

The MetaTrader setup text on the web asks you to pick your server timezone from a dropdown below it. On the web there is no dropdown on the broker upload page. The setting is in Profile > Display Preferences > Broker Server Timezone, and on the VEXA AI Import page it is in the Timezone Settings panel. Android is the surface that puts it on the upload screen.

What you should see

Once set, the confirmation reads: all MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, Moomoo, Tiger and NinjaTrader uploads will use that timezone. If it has never been set, the setting reads “Not set” and you are prompted for it on your first upload from one of those five.

After a correctly configured import, spot-check one trade against your broker: the entry time should match the time your broker shows, translated into your display timezone.

If it doesn’t work

  • Every trade is on the wrong day, by a consistent number of hours. The server timezone is wrong. Fix it and re-import the file. Existing trades are not rewritten by changing the setting. See My trades are on the wrong day.
  • Trades are on the right day but in the wrong session. Same cause, smaller offset. A trade that should be Regular showing as Pre-Market usually means an hour or two of drift.
  • Only some trades are off. That is not a timezone problem. Timezone errors shift everything in the file by the same amount.
