How Discipline is calculated

The four internal buckets behind Discipline, the four-day recency weighting, and why the Discipline tab uses a 500 dollar loss limit that is not the one you set.

What this does

Discipline asks whether you follow your own rules. It is suggested at 35 per cent of the VEXA Score, the second largest share after Confidence.

The four buckets

VEXA’s AI is given an explicit internal split for Discipline:

ShareBucketWhat it looks at
25%Max daily loss adherenceA precomputed four-day weighted violation severity
25%Intraday P&L fluctuation controlA four-day weighted intraday volatility figure and each day’s P&L path
15%HealthLast night only
35%AI discretionaryLoss cutting, revenge trading, position sizing, recovery behaviour, trade frequency, Showed Up days

The four-day recency weighting

The first two buckets do not look at one day. They look at your last four trading days with the most recent day counting most:

DayWeight
Most recentabout 41%
One beforeabout 27%
Two beforeabout 18%
Three beforeabout 12%

That weighting is computed before the model ever sees your data, and the model is instructed not to re-weight it. One bad day three sessions ago does not sink the score if yesterday was clean.

How severity is read

The daily loss bucket runs on a violation severity from 0 to 100, where higher is worse:

SeverityWhat it meansEffect
0 to 15CleanFull points
15 to 30Minor drawdownsMinimal penalty
30 to 50Intraday violation with recoveryModerate penalty
50 to 75Significant exceed, weak recoveryHeavy penalty
75 to 100End-of-day breach inside the windowMajor penalty

How the P&L path is read

The intraday bucket judges the shape of each day, not only its close. A weighted volatility below 1.0 reads as stable trading. Above 2.0 reads as emotional swings.

The model is handed a plain description of each day and told how to grade it. “Steady grind up” and “red day but cut losses early” score as high discipline. “Green close but volatile intraday swings” and “red day, losses compounded” score as poor discipline, and the green one is not forgiven for closing green.

Showed Up days

Days you were present and chose not to trade sit inside the discretionary 35 per cent, measured over a two-week window. The guidance awards up to +5 points for one, +6 to +8 when it follows a losing day, and +7 to +10 when it follows a very large day in either direction. See Mark a Showed Up day.

The five rows on the Discipline tab

These rows are computed on your device over the last five trading days as an explanation. They do not produce the score.

DAILY LOSS ADHERENCECritical(trading days − violations) / trading days × 100A day counts as a violation when its P&L is below minus 500 dollars
LOSS CUTTINGHigh priorityExcellent, Good or Poor, plus the ratioRatio is average loss divided by average win. Below 1.0 is Excellent, below 1.5 is Good, otherwise Poor

What you should see

A Discipline number to one decimal place, five rows with arrows and secondary lines such as “2 violations” or “Ratio: 1.24”, and AI contributing factors that name the most recent day specifically.

If it doesn’t work

  • Discipline fell after a profitable day. Check the intraday bucket. A day that closed green after a deep drawdown is scored as poor control, on purpose.
  • The daily loss row flags days you consider fine. It is using 500 dollars, not your limit. See the warning above.
  • The sleep row says Optimal and you own no wearable. It is reading the 7.0 hour default.
  • One bad day tanked the score. Check which day. The most recent session carries roughly 41 per cent of two of the four buckets.
