Edit or delete a rule

Changes apply from today onward and never re-grade your history. Deleting a rule with graded days keeps those days intact.

What this does

Manage Rules is where you turn a rule off for a while, change its numbers, or remove it. All three behave the same way about the past: they leave it alone.

The rule that governs all of this

Changes apply from today onward. Past days keep their original grading.

VEXA stores rules as versions rather than overwriting them. Each day is graded against the rule as it stood on that day. Tightening a limit today does not retroactively fail last month, and loosening one does not retroactively rescue it.

The apps say this out loud. On iPhone and iPad the Manage Rules sheet carries the line “Changes apply from today onward; past days keep their original grading.” On the web, edit mode shows an amber banner with the same statement.

Steps

Open Rules Tracker from the sidebar and press Manage Rules.
Find the rule. Each entry shows a plain-English description of what it does.
Use the toggle to deactivate or reactivate it. A toast confirms either way.
Use the edit control to change its settings, then press Update rule.
Use the delete control and confirm to remove it.

Open the Home tab, the house icon at the far left of the bar at the bottom, then tap the Rules Tracker card.
Tap Manage Rules.
Your rules are listed under Your Rules.
Toggle a rule off to stop it being graded from today, or use the edit control to change it.
To remove it, use the delete action and confirm.

Deactivating and deleting are different

Deactivating stops the rule being graded from today. It stays in your list, keeps all its history, and you can turn it back on later. This is the right choice for a rule you want to pause.

Deleting removes it from your list for good.

What happens to the history depends on whether the rule was ever graded:

The rule	What deletion does
Has graded days	It is retired rather than erased. It stops being graded from today, disappears from every rule list, and past days keep their scores and stay in your analytics.
Has never been graded	It is removed outright, because there is nothing to preserve.

The iPhone confirmation states it plainly: past days keep their grading and analytics, the rule disappears from your list and stops being graded from today onward, and the action cannot be undone.

What you should see

After deactivating, today’s compliance score recalculates without that rule in the denominator, which usually moves the score. Past cells on the calendar do not change colour.

After deleting a rule with history, the rule is gone from Manage Rules but the per-rule impact card can still reflect the days it graded.

If it doesn’t work

You edited a limit and last month did not change. That is the design. Backdate a new rule instead.
A deleted rule still appears in analytics. It had graded history, so it was retired rather than erased.
The rule reads “Unsupported rule, update VEXA”. It was created on a newer app version than the one on that device. Update the app, or edit it from the web.
Deactivating a rule made your score worse. The remaining rules now carry more weight each. With four rules, one failure costs 25 points. With three, it costs 33.
