Turn on the heart-rate overlay
Draw your heart rate over a day's P&L curve, why only the most recent day loads it automatically, and how closely the two lines really line up.
What this does
The overlay draws your recorded heart rate on top of the intraday P&L curve for a Journal day, so you can see where your body reacted and compare it with where the money moved.
Before you start
The heart rate has to exist first. It comes from a VEXA Sentinel session, streamed live from an Apple Watch, a Wear OS watch or a Bluetooth chest strap while you were trading. Sentinel needs Pro. The web can draw what the phone recorded, but the web never records anything itself.
A day with no recorded heart rate has nothing to draw, and the control for that day will not turn on.
Only the most recent trading day loads heart rate automatically. Every other day fetches it when you ask for it. That is what keeps the Journal quick to open.
Steps
- Open Journal from the sidebar and find the day.
- Look next to Expand for the Sentinel button.
- Press it. The button has three states: grey means no heart-rate data exists for that day, a spinner means it is fetching, and a full orange glow means the line is drawn.
- Read the chart. Heart rate uses its own scale, and P&L keeps its own.
- Tap the book icon at the bottom of the screen and pick the day.
- Scroll to the Intraday P&L chart.
- Turn on the Heart rate toggle above it.
- Look for SENTINEL markers on the chart. Each one is a point where an intervention fired.
- Open Journal from the sidebar and pick the day.
- Scroll to the intraday P&L chart.
- Turn on the Heart rate toggle.
- iPad also gives heart rate a card of its own below the chart, so you can read the trace without the P&L line on top of it.
- Tap the book icon at the bottom of the screen and pick the day.
- Scroll to the Intraday P&L card.
- Turn on the heart-rate switch.
- The BPM axis appears on the left and the dollar axis stays on the right. Touch and hold the chart for a callout showing the time, the P&L and the reading in BPM.
- Open Journal from the sidebar and pick the day.
- Scroll to the intraday P&L card.
- Turn on the Heart rate switch.
- Touch and hold the chart for a callout showing the time, the P&L and the reading in BPM.
How closely the two lines actually match
Read the pattern, not the crossings. The P&L series is placed by trade order, one point per trade, while heart rate is placed by clock time. Your trades are not evenly spaced through the session, so a peak in one line does not sit exactly above the matching moment in the other.
That is enough to answer “was I calm during the winners and spiking during the losers”. It is not enough to say a specific BPM belongs to a specific fill.
What you should see
An orange or coloured trace running across the same chart as your P&L, with its own axis. Your choice of on or off is remembered for the next day you open, because the setting is stored on your account rather than per day.
If it doesn’t work
- The control is greyed out. No heart rate was recorded that day. Check whether a Sentinel session was running.
- It spins and then shows nothing. The fetch found no samples in the session window. Days where the watch dropped its connection mid-session end up here.
- You have a watch but never any data. The session has to be started from a phone. Sentinel sessions cannot be started on iPad or Android tablet.
