What happens when you hit a limit

The difference between your monthly plan allowance and the daily voice cap, and what each message means.

Same on every platform Updated

What this does

There are two separate limits on voice, and they produce different messages. Reading which one you got tells you whether to wait until tomorrow or upgrade your plan.

The two voice limits

LimitWhat it isThe message
Daily cap100 voice sessions per day, and 300 voice minutes per day, on every plan”Voice is temporarily unavailable. Please try again.”
Monthly allowanceYour plan’s voice minutes for the period”You’ve hit a limit. You’ve reached the limit for this feature on your current plan. Wait for your next reset or upgrade your plan.”

The daily cap does not announce itself. Voice simply fails to connect with the generic message above, which is the same message you get for an ordinary connection problem. If retrying does not help and the AI Usage card still shows minutes left for the month, the daily cap is the likely cause.

A daily block clears at midnight. A monthly one clears on your reset date, or immediately if you upgrade.

The daily cap is there to catch runaway sessions. In practice you reach your monthly allowance first on every plan.

Chat messages

Chat has one limit: your plan’s monthly allowance. When it is used up you get the same “You’ve hit a limit” message.

Free accounts include a five-message taste of chat. On the web that taste is reachable through the chat widget on the dashboard even though the full chat page needs Edge, which is why free accounts sometimes report chat working a few times and then stopping.

Your options when you hit the monthly allowance

  1. Wait for your reset date. It is on the AI Usage card, and it is your subscription anniversary rather than the first of the month.
  2. Upgrade. Pro carries three times the Edge allowance for both voice and chat, and the extra is available immediately.

What you should see

Before you get there, the meters on the AI Usage card turn yellow at 80% and red at 100%. See Read the AI Usage card.

Hitting a limit affects only voice and chat. Your trades, journal, metrics and scores keep working normally.

If it doesn’t work

  • You are blocked and the meter says you have minutes left. You have hit the daily cap rather than the monthly allowance. The message does not say so, it just reads “Voice is temporarily unavailable”. It clears tomorrow.
  • You upgraded and are still blocked. Reload the page or reopen the app so the new allowance is picked up.
  • AI features paused briefly and then came back. Short-term rate limits protect the service from bursts. They are minutes long, not days.
