Payment failed: what happens next

A declined renewal does not lock you out straight away. Here is the retry window, the one email you get, and how to fix it.

Same on every platform Updated

What this does

When a renewal is declined, nothing is switched off immediately. The payment is retried over the following days and your access stays on while that happens.

Most declines are an expired card or a routine bank block, and they take about a minute to fix.

What happens, in order

  1. The charge fails.
  2. VEXA emails you once, subject “Your VEXA payment didn’t go through”. One email per episode, not one per retry.
  3. Profile > Subscription shows a red Payment failed badge.
  4. The retries run. Your access continues throughout.
  5. If a retry succeeds, everything returns to normal with no action from you and no further email.
  6. If every retry fails, the subscription ends and paid features lock.

Before you start

Fix the card on the rail that bills you. Profile > Subscription tells you which one.

Steps

Same on every platform

  1. Open the email, or open Profile, then Subscription, and check for the Payment failed badge.
  2. Update your payment method. See Update your payment method for the exact path on your platform.
  3. Wait for the next retry, which usually runs within a day.

What you should see

Once a retry clears, the badge goes back to Active and the line reads “Renews {date}”. No email is sent for a successful retry.

If it doesn’t work

  • Your bank keeps declining it. International or recurring charges are sometimes blocked by default. Ask your bank to allow it, or use a different card.
  • You are locked out already. Every retry failed and the subscription ended. Subscribe again from Profile > Subscription. Your trades and journal are untouched, and a previous subscription means no new trial. See Why was I charged immediately instead of getting a trial?.
  • You never received the email. Check spam. If VEXA emails stopped arriving in mid-July 2026, support can put your address back on.
  • You would rather stop. Nothing to do. If you take no action the subscription lapses. Cancelling formally is cleaner. See Cancel your subscription.
