Refresh, caching and stale numbers

Why freshly imported trades sometimes take a moment to appear, where the refresh control is on each device, and what a refresh actually does.

What this does

VEXA keeps your trades in memory for a short time so moving between screens is instant. That cache is why numbers can lag a fresh import by a moment, and the refresh control is how you skip the wait.

Before you start

The cache lasts five minutes and is shared across screens. It is also invalidated automatically whenever a broker sync or a file import writes new trades, so in normal use you should not need to think about it.

The cases where you do are: an import that finished in another tab or on another device, and a number that looks wrong while you are actively checking it.

Android has no refresh control on Metrics. Leaving the screen and coming back re-reads your trades, which is the equivalent action there.

Steps

Open Metrics in the sidebar.
Press the circular arrow refresh control in the filters row.
Wait for the board to redraw.

Pull down on the board to refresh.

What a refresh does and does not do

A refresh re-reads your trades from VEXA’s servers, bypassing the cache. It does not contact your broker. If a trade is missing because it was never imported, refreshing forever will not produce it: sync the broker or import the file, then refresh.

Recalculating your VEXA score is a separate action with its own control on the Dashboard, and it runs on a different schedule from your trade data.

What you should see

A brief loading state, then the same board with the new trades in it. The trade count beside the header is the quickest confirmation: if it went up, the new trades landed.

If it doesn’t work

Trades still missing after a refresh. The import did not write them. Check the broker connection and the import result rather than the cache.
The numbers changed while you were reading them. A sync finished in the background and invalidated the cache. The later number is the correct one.
Only some screens updated. Screens keep their own date ranges in one case: Rules Tracker. Everything else shares one range.
