Replay a trade

What this does

Replay plays the trade back one candle at a time with your P&L ticking alongside it. You watch the position go through what it went through, without knowing where price ends up, which is a more honest way to review an exit than staring at the finished chart.

Before you start

Replay is on the web app only. There is no replay on iPhone, iPad, Android phone or Android tablet. The trade page on those surfaces has the chart and the fullscreen chart, but no playback.

Replay needs chart data. A trade with no candles has nothing to play. See Why a chart is blank.

Steps

The playback controls

The scrub bar runs from the start of the session to the end of it, with a green dot at your entry, a red dot at your exit and a blue dot where the replay currently is. All three are clickable, and you can drag anywhere on the bar. The times under it are the session start, where you are now, and the session end.

The buttons, left to right: Entry jumps to your entry, then step backward, Reset, Play/Pause, step forward, and Exit jumps to your exit.

Speeds are 0.5x, 1x, 2x, 4x and 8x. One candle advances every half second at 1x.

Keyboard shortcuts

Shortcuts are ignored while you are typing in a text field, so writing a note does not pause the replay.

The running P&L

The Current P&L in the header recalculates at every candle as the replay advances. When VEXA has your individual fills it works the P&L first in, first out across them, so a position you scaled into and out of shows the P&L you would actually have had at that moment rather than a simple entry to exit estimate. The contract multiplier is applied throughout.

The side panel

Executions takes the top of the panel. Every fill is a row with its time, price and signed quantity, and clicking one jumps the replay there. A trade with no execution-level data falls back to two rows, one for the entry and one for the exit.

Journal takes the rest, with three tabs:

• Stats carries the trade’s Net P&L, its return, your star rating and tags, and your CDI scores for both the day of the trade and the day after.
• Day carries that day’s performance and your health metrics for it.
• AI carries the scenario panel. See AI Commentary and Scenario analysis.

Collapse the whole panel with the Collapse button to give the chart more room. A thin bar brings it back.

Options trades

An options trade replays as two charts side by side, the underlying and the contract, moving together.

What you should see

The modal opens nearly full screen with the chart at your entry. Pressing Play walks the candles forward and the P&L in the header changes with them.

If it doesn’t work

“Failed to load data” or “No data available”. The market data provider has nothing for this symbol. Index options and Indian market symbols are the usual cases.

A shortcut key does nothing. Your cursor is in a text field. Click the chart first.

The P&L jumps in one step rather than moving. VEXA has only the entry and the exit for this trade, with no fills in between. Nothing is wrong, there is nothing to interpolate.
