Full-screen the trade chart

Expand the trade chart to the whole screen on any device, what changes when you do, and why the button is greyed out until the candles arrive.

What this does

Fullscreen gives the chart the whole screen. On a phone it is the difference between a chart you can glance at and one you can actually read.

Before you start

Fullscreen is on all five surfaces. What it does underneath differs a little, and one of those differences is worth knowing: on Android, vertical panning only works in fullscreen. If you have been trying to drag the price scale on the small chart and nothing moves, that is why.

The button does nothing until the candles load. Android greys it out on purpose, because an empty fullscreen chart is worse than no button.

Steps

  1. Open a trade from Trades or from a Journal day card.
  2. Click the maximise icon on the chart. Its tooltip reads “Fullscreen”.
  3. The chart expands to fill the window in place. Your zoom and pan are kept, because the chart is not rebuilt.
  4. Press Esc, or click the minimise icon, to come back.

  3. The chart opens as its own screen.
  4. Tap the close control at the top right to come back.

Going in and out costs nothing

Entering fullscreen does not reload the chart on any surface, and neither does leaving. Switching timeframe while you are in there uses the same cached candles as the small chart. You can move in and out as often as you like without paying for it in load time or in rate limits.

On the web the page behind fullscreen stops scrolling while you are in it, so a scroll gesture pans the chart rather than moving the page underneath.

What you should see

The chart fills the screen with your indicators still on it and the entry and exit markers still in place. Coming back leaves you where you were on the trade page.

If it doesn’t work

The fullscreen button is greyed out. The candles have not arrived. Wait for the chart to draw, and if it never does, see Why a chart is blank.

Esc does not close it on the web. Focus is inside a text field somewhere on the page. Click the chart once, then press Esc, or use the minimise icon.

You cannot pan up and down on Android. That gesture is only enabled in fullscreen. Go fullscreen first.
