The reminders you see when a session starts
Up to three notices appear as a Sentinel session begins. They are setup reminders, not errors, and which ones you see depends on your wearable.
What this does
Explains the notices that appear the moment you start a session. Nothing has gone wrong when you see them. Sentinel is about to start reading your heart rate, and these are the conditions under which that reading works.
You see between one and three, in this order. The first always appears. The second and third depend on which wearable you chose.
1. Complete Your Session Setup. A checklist rather than a warning. On the web it reads:
For the best Sentinel experience, make sure you also have: your VEXA iOS or Android app open and connected; your wearable device (Apple Watch, WHOOP, etc.) active and syncing.
Dismiss it with Got it.
2. The Apple Watch note, only if your wearable source is Apple Watch:
Live heart-rate streaming requires an active workout session, which Apple uses to keep the heart sensor reading. As a result, your Apple Activity Rings may register some Exercise minutes during a Sentinel session. Vexa does not save the workout to Apple Health.
There is a full explanation in Why Apple Watch adds Exercise minutes.
3. The unlocked-phone note, only if your wearable is WHOOP or Fitbit Air. It gives the setting to change on each platform: on iPhone, Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock > Never, and on Android, Settings > Display > Screen Timeout > Keep screen on. It also says you can put the setting back after your trading session ends. Dismiss it with Understood.
Before you start
These fire every time a session starts, not once. They are conditions rather than announcements, and the conditions apply to every session.
If you use a chest strap or the Verity Sense armband you only see the first one, since those devices work with the phone locked.
Dismissing a notice does not change any setting. The Apple Watch note is a disclosure and the unlocked-phone note is an instruction you carry out yourself in the phone’s own settings.
Steps
- Click Start Monitoring.
- Read the first notice and click Got it.
- If a device-specific notice follows, read it and click Got it or Understood.
- Check that the VEXA app is open on your phone, which is what the first notice is asking for.
- Tap Start Session on the Sentinel live card.
- Read each notice and dismiss it.
- If you saw the unlocked-phone notice, open the iOS Settings app and set Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock to Never for the session.
- Tap Start Session on the Sentinel live card.
- Read each dialog and dismiss it.
- If you saw the unlocked-phone dialog, open the Android Settings app and set Display > Screen Timeout to keep the screen on for the session.
What you should see
After the last notice, the live card goes active: a session timer starts counting and a heart rate appears within a few seconds.
If you dismissed the notices and the card still shows -- everywhere, the reminders were right and
something in that checklist is not in place.
If it doesn’t work
The notices appear every session and you find them repetitive. They cannot be turned off. Each one is a condition your reading depends on.
You dismissed the WHOOP notice and readings stopped a minute later. The phone locked. Change the auto-lock setting rather than dismissing the notice.
The Apple Watch notice appears and you do not own an Apple Watch. Your wearable source is still set to Apple Watch. Change it in the Sentinel settings, since your real device is not being read.
