Set up the Garmin HRM-Pro Plus for Sentinel

Close Garmin Connect and any watch sync, wear the strap, and pair the HRM-Pro Plus to VEXA for live heart rate and HRV.

WebiPhoneAndroid Updated

What this does

Connects a Garmin HRM-Pro Plus chest strap to VEXA over Bluetooth. Sentinel works from physiology and never sees your positions, and this strap gives it beat-to-beat intervals, so live heart rate variability is available and HRV rules can fire.

Before you start

Close Garmin Connect, and stop any active sync with a Garmin watch. The HRM-Pro Plus broadcasts to one app at a time. If your watch is holding it, VEXA’s scan finds nothing. This is the usual cause of a failed pair.

Wet the electrodes before wearing. A dry strap either does not connect or drops out once it warms up.

VEXA needs Bluetooth permission on the phone. It asks the first time you scan.

The phone can stay locked with this strap.

Steps

  1. Open VEXA Sentinel from the sidebar.
  2. Open the Settings tab.
  3. Under Wearable Source, choose Garmin HRM-Pro Plus. The setup modal lists the same steps.
  4. Do the pairing on your phone. The web dashboard displays readings and cannot pair a strap.
  1. Wet the electrodes on the back of the strap.
  2. Buckle the strap around your chest.
  3. Close Garmin Connect and stop any active Garmin watch sync.
  4. Open VEXA, tap Home, then Sentinel.
  5. Tap the gear icon, then Sentinel Settings, then Wearable Source, and choose Garmin HRM-Pro Plus.
  6. Tap Scan for Garmin HRM.

What you should see

The wearable section shows Garmin HRM-Pro Plus with the status Connected.

Start a session and the live card shows a beats-per-minute figure updating every couple of seconds, plus an HRV figure in milliseconds.

If it doesn’t work

The scan finds nothing. A Garmin watch or Garmin Connect has the strap. Turn the watch’s heart rate broadcast off, force close Connect, and scan again.

It pairs and drops out mid-session. Electrodes dried out, or the watch reconnected in the background. Re-wet the strap and keep the watch away from the broadcast.

Readings are jumpy. The strap is too loose or has ridden up. Reseat it against the skin.
