Start and stop a Sentinel session
Sessions are one shared thing across your devices. Starting on the web starts your watch, and stopping anywhere stops everywhere.
What this does
Starts the monitoring window in which Sentinel reads your heart rate and evaluates your rules. It watches physiology only, so starting a session does not connect it to your broker and does not tell it anything about the trades you are about to take.
A session is one shared thing, not one per device. Start it on the web and your watch begins monitoring. Stop it on your phone and the web card goes idle. Every surface is looking at the same session record.
Before you start
Sentinel sessions cannot be started on iPad or Android tablet. Use your phone or the web. iPad shows “Waiting for a session…” until one is running elsewhere. The Android tablet screen carries the same start control as the phone because it reuses that card, and the tablet has no heart rate source of its own, so the phone is where a session belongs. See Sentinel on iPad and Android tablet.
Your wearable should be on your body and connected before you start. Starting without one gives you a session that records nothing.
Keep the phone app open. The phone is what talks to the watch or strap, so a session started from the web still depends on it.
Sessions left running are closed automatically after four hours. If you trade longer than that, start a fresh one.
On iPhone there is a shortcut: a Lock Screen widget starts a session in one tap. See Add the Sentinel Lock Screen widget.
Steps
- Open VEXA Sentinel from the sidebar.
- Click Start Monitoring at the top right, or Start on the Sentinel · Live card.
- Work through the reminders that appear and click Got it on each.
- Click Stop Monitoring when you are done trading.
- Open Home, then tap Sentinel.
- Tap Start Session on the live card.
- Work through the reminders that appear.
- Tap Stop on the same card when you are done.
- Open Home, then tap Sentinel.
- Tap Start Session on the live card.
- Work through the dialogs that appear.
- Tap Stop on the same card when you are done.
What you should see
A pulsing green dot next to the Sentinel title, a LIVE badge on the card once a reading lands, and a session timer counting up. Your heart rate appears within a few seconds of the watch or strap connecting, and the chart begins drawing.
The voice coach may greet you once at the start, referring to your name, your last journal entry and the rules you have running. It is a one-way greeting and does not wait for an answer.
When you stop, the vitals return to --, the timer clears, and the session is added to your history
and to the baseline calculation.
If it doesn’t work
The LIVE badge never appears. No reading has arrived in the last 30 seconds. The phone app is closed, or the wearable is not connected. Open the app and check the wearable status in Sentinel settings.
You started on the web and the watch did nothing. The phone app was not running. It is the link between the watch and your account.
The session stopped on its own. Sessions over four hours are closed by a cleanup job. Start another one.
You cannot find a start control. You are on iPad, where sessions cannot be started.
