Set up WHOOP for Sentinel
Turn on Heart Rate Broadcast in the WHOOP app, pair the strap to VEXA over Bluetooth, and keep the phone screen on while you trade.
What this does
Connects a WHOOP strap directly to the VEXA app over Bluetooth so Sentinel has a live pulse to work from. Sentinel judges you on physiology, never on your positions, so this feed is what every rule reads.
WHOOP does not broadcast by default. You turn on Heart Rate Broadcast in the WHOOP app, which makes the strap advertise a standard Bluetooth heart rate service that VEXA can subscribe to.
Before you start
WHOOP needs your phone screen to stay on. The Bluetooth connection drops when the phone locks, and readings stop with it. VEXA shows a reminder about this when you start a session. See Why WHOOP and Fitbit need your phone unlocked.
WHOOP sends an averaged heart rate rather than beat-to-beat intervals, so the live HRV figure stays empty during a session. Rules built on heart rate variability will not fire on WHOOP.
The strap talks to one phone at a time. Keep the WHOOP app installed, since that is where the broadcast switch lives, and expect to leave it in the background.
VEXA needs Bluetooth permission on the phone. It asks the first time you scan.
Steps
- Open VEXA Sentinel from the sidebar.
- Open the Settings tab.
- Under Wearable Source, choose WHOOP. The setup modal opens with the same four steps.
- Do the pairing on your phone. The web dashboard shows what the phone collects and cannot pair a strap itself.
- Open the WHOOP app on your phone.
- Go to More > Devices > Heart Rate Broadcast.
- Toggle HR Broadcast to ON.
- Open VEXA, tap Home, then Sentinel.
- Tap the gear icon, then Sentinel Settings, then Wearable Source, and choose WHOOP.
- Tap Scan for WHOOP and wait for the strap to appear.
- Open the WHOOP app on your phone.
- Go to More > Devices > Heart Rate Broadcast.
- Toggle HR Broadcast to ON.
- Open VEXA, tap Home, then Sentinel.
- Tap the gear icon (Settings), then Sentinel Settings, then Wearable source, and choose WHOOP.
- Tap the scan action and wait for the strap to appear.
What you should see
The wearable section shows WHOOP with the status Connected.
Start a session and the live card shows a beats-per-minute figure updating every few seconds, with WHOOP named next to the LIVE badge. A reminder about keeping the phone unlocked appears as you start.
HRV stays empty. That is correct for WHOOP.
If it doesn’t work
The scan finds nothing. Heart Rate Broadcast is off, or it switched itself off after a WHOOP app update. Check it in the WHOOP app and scan again with the strap on your wrist.
It pairs and then stops after a minute. The phone screen locked. Set auto-lock to never for the session.
It pairs on one phone and not the other. The strap broadcasts to one connection at a time. Disconnect it on the first phone before pairing the second.
You want to move to a different strap. See Pair a different strap.
WHOOP’s own guidance on the broadcast setting is at support.whoop.com.
