VEXA shows the wrong name

Why the greeting keeps using your old name after you change it, and the one action that refreshes it.

What this does

You edit your name, save it, and the greeting at the top of the screen carries on using the old one. Your name did save. What you are looking at is a copy of it held on the device.

Why it happens

Your display name is stored encrypted, and each app keeps a decrypted copy locally so the greeting can appear the instant the screen opens rather than after a round trip. That local copy is written when you sign in. Editing your profile updates the stored name but does not rewrite the copy that is already sitting on the device, so the greeting keeps using it until the next sign-in.

Everything else has already changed. Your name is correct in your profile, in exports, on leaderboards if you are visible there, and in anything VEXA sends you.

Before you start

Signing out clears local data on that device and, on Android, resets the first-run walkthrough state. Nothing on your account is deleted. Have your sign-in method to hand, and use the same one you used last time. See I can’t sign in if you are not sure which.

Steps

  1. Open the sidebar footer card and choose View Profile.
  2. Check Profile Information shows the name you want. If not, use Edit and save it first.
  3. Scroll to the bottom and choose Sign Out.
  4. Sign back in with the same method.

What you should see

The greeting on Home reads “Good morning” or “Good afternoon” followed by your new first name, and matches what Profile Information shows.

If it doesn’t work

  • The name is wrong in your profile too. Then it was never saved. Edit it again and watch for the confirmation before leaving the screen.
  • It is right on one device and wrong on another. Each device holds its own copy. Sign out and back in on the device that is still wrong.
  • You are seeing somebody else’s name entirely. That means you are signed into a different account, not a caching problem. See I can’t sign in.
