The app is slow or unresponsive

The four things that make VEXA feel frozen, including an import overlay that is working rather than stuck.

Same on every platform Updated

What this does

Slow is not the same as stuck. Three of the four causes below are VEXA doing work you asked for, and interrupting them makes things worse.

The four causes

1. An import is running

While a file is being imported, VEXA covers the screen with a progress overlay and holds it there until the import finishes. On Android that overlay also absorbs the back gesture for the whole import, which is exactly what a frozen app looks like. It is not frozen.

There is a timing detail worth knowing. The client gives up waiting after about five minutes, while the server keeps working for about nine. A large file can therefore report a failure on your screen and still finish importing. Check your trades before uploading the same file again. Re-uploading is safe either way, because duplicates are detected, but you will save yourself the wait.

2. The Journal is re-syncing

The Journal fetches from the server every time you open it instead of trusting its local copy, so expect a wait even on an app you have had open all day. A slow journal is a better trade than a journal quietly showing you last month’s entries.

3. A large date range

Asking for a year of trades pulls a lot more than asking for a month. If a screen is slow only at wide ranges, narrow the range and it will return to normal.

4. The device is under pressure

Low battery, low storage, or a browser with many tabs open all slow VEXA down in ways VEXA cannot fix from inside.

Steps

  1. If a progress overlay is on screen, leave the tab open and wait. It says so.
  2. Narrow the date range on the screen you are using.
  3. Close other tabs and reload the page.
  4. Try the same screen in a private window. If it is fast there, stored data in your normal window is the cause, and clearing site data for the VEXA app fixes it.
  1. If an import overlay is on screen, wait. Do not force the app closed part way through.
  2. Narrow the date range on the screen you are using.
  3. Close VEXA from the app switcher and reopen it.
  4. Restart the phone if several apps are slow, not only this one.

  1. If an import overlay is on screen, wait. The back gesture is deliberately ignored until it finishes.
  2. Narrow the date range on the screen you are using.
  3. Close VEXA from the recents screen and reopen it.
  4. Check free storage. Android throttles apps aggressively when storage is nearly full.

What you should see

Screens open in about a second on a warm app, with the Journal being the one consistent exception because it always re-syncs first.
