A screen is blank or stuck loading

What to do when a page never finishes loading, including the recovery VEXA runs on its own and the reload gesture for each device.

Same on every platform Updated

What this does

A screen that spins forever is almost always a stalled connection to VEXA’s database rather than missing data. The connection recovers on its own in most cases, and there is one Android symptom that needs a different fix.

What VEXA already does for you

On the web, if no database listener answers within a short window, VEXA clears its local cache and reloads the page once by itself. That single automatic reload is what quietly fixes most people who would otherwise be staring at what looks like a signed-out screen. If you see the page blink and come back populated, that was it working.

Before you start

Check that it is a stall and not an empty state. An empty state is a screen with a heading, an explanation and a button, such as “Welcome to VEXA” with Add Your First Trade under it. That is not a fault. A stall is a screen with a spinner, a skeleton outline, or nothing at all.

Steps

  1. Wait about fifteen seconds. VEXA may reload the page for you.
  2. If nothing happens, reload the page.
  3. Still stuck, hold Shift and reload to bypass the browser cache.
  4. Open the same page in a private window. If it loads there, the problem is stored data in your normal window, and clearing site data for the VEXA app fixes it.
  5. Note that VEXA’s web app is dark themed only and does not support browser extensions that rewrite pages. Disable any that are active and try once more.
  1. Pull down on the screen to refresh it.
  2. If the spinner returns, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and swipe VEXA away to close it, then open it again.
  3. Check your connection by loading any other app that needs the internet.
  4. If a specific screen is stuck and others are fine, open Profile and pull down there. Profile does a hard refresh of your account list, which unsticks a stale broker or account selection.
  1. Pull down on the screen to refresh it.
  2. If the spinner returns, close VEXA from the app switcher and open it again.
  3. Check your connection by loading any other app that needs the internet.
  4. If a specific screen is stuck and others are fine, open Profile from the sidebar chip and pull down there to force a hard refresh of your accounts.
  1. Pull down on the screen to refresh it.
  2. If the spinner returns, close VEXA from the recents screen and open it again.
  3. If several screens are slow or blank at once, and closing the app does not help, turn airplane mode on for five seconds and off again, then reopen VEXA. That resets the app’s connection, which is the specific fix for a queue of writes that has jammed.
  4. Check your connection by loading any other app that needs the internet.
  1. Pull down on the screen to refresh it.
  2. If the spinner returns, close VEXA from the recents screen and open it again.
  3. If several screens are slow or blank at once, turn airplane mode on for five seconds and off again, then reopen VEXA.
  4. If the sidebar itself is missing rather than the content, that is a different problem. See Navigation disappeared on my tablet.

What you should see

The screen fills with your data within a couple of seconds of the refresh. On the Journal, expect a short load even on a warm app: the Journal always re-syncs from the server when you open it rather than trusting what is cached.
