Community roles and moderation

Admin, Moderator and Member, what each one can do, and how to promote, mute or ban someone from the member list.

WebiPhoneAndroid Updated

What this does

Every member of a community holds one of three roles. The role decides what appears on the member list when you tap or click a person.

RoleWho has itWhat they can do
AdminThe person who created the communityEverything a moderator can do, plus promoting members, managing the invite code and deleting the community
ModeratorA member an admin promotedBan members
MemberEveryone elseRead the member list

An admin cannot be moderated. The controls do not appear on an admin’s row, and they never appear on your own row.

Before you start

The moderation actions available differ by platform, so check the table below before you go looking for a control that is not on your device.

Muting is a holdover from when communities had message threads. The action behind it was removed with chat in April 2026, so the buttons still sitting in the phone menus fail if you tap them. It was never added to the web. See Why there’s no community chat.

Banning is the action that matters. It removes the person and stops them rejoining with the invite code.

Steps

  1. Choose Communities in the sidebar, then open the Communities tab.
  2. Open the community and find its member list.
  3. Open the menu on a member’s row. It appears only if you are an admin or moderator, and never on your own row or an admin’s.
  4. Choose Make Moderator to promote, or Ban from community to remove them.
  1. On Home, tap the Communities & Leaderboards card.
  2. Tap the Communities tab, then open the community.
  3. Tap the members icon to open the member list.
  4. Open the actions on a member’s row and choose Promote to Moderator or Ban User. Mute (1 hour) and Unmute are also listed, but they no longer do anything.
  1. On Home, tap the Communities & Leaderboards card.
  2. Tap the Communities tab, then open the community.
  3. Find the member on the list.
  4. Open the moderation menu on their row and choose Promote to Mod or Ban. Mute and Unmute are also listed, but they no longer do anything.

What you should see

Each row on the member list carries the person’s name, their avatar and their role as text: Admin, Moderator or Member. Your own row is marked (You).

On iPhone, a banned member’s row reads ”• Banned”.

The list is ordered by role, so admins and moderators sit above ordinary members.

Promoting and demoting

An admin can promote a member to moderator. That is a one-way control in the app: there is no demote button on any surface, even though the underlying model has the concept.

If you promoted the wrong person, contact support at support@vexatrade.ai rather than banning them.

If it doesn’t work

  • No menu appears on a member’s row. You are a plain member, or the row belongs to you or to an admin. None of those get controls.
  • You cannot find Mute on the web, or Mute on a phone does nothing. Muting was retired with community chat. Ban instead, and see Why there’s no community chat.
  • A banned member is still on the list. Refresh. The list is fetched on open rather than live.
  • You want to hand the community to someone else. There is no ownership transfer. Support at support@vexatrade.ai can advise.
