Show an anonymous name on the leaderboard

Swap your real name for a generated handle on leaderboards. The choice locks for 30 days once you change it, so make it deliberately.

WebiPhoneAndroid Updated

What this does

Leaderboard rows carry a name. By default that is your real name, the one on your profile. Anonymous mode replaces it with a handle VEXA generates for you, so you keep your ranking without publishing who you are.

The handle is assigned, not chosen. You cannot edit it or pick a different one.

Before you start

Changing this setting locks it for 30 days. Once you switch, you cannot switch back until the 30 days are up. The control greys out and shows how much time is left. There is no override, and support cannot shorten it.

The lock exists so nobody can flip to their real name for a good week and back to anonymous for a bad one.

Steps

  1. Choose Communities in the sidebar.
  2. Choose Settings in the header row.
  3. Find Display Mode at the top of the panel.
  4. Use the eye toggle to switch between your real name and the anonymous handle.
  5. Read the Confirm Change step, then confirm.
  1. On Home, tap the Communities & Leaderboards card.
  2. Tap the Leaderboards tab.
  3. Open Leaderboard Settings.
  4. Under Display As, choose Real Name or Anonymous.
  5. Confirm when asked.
  1. On Home, tap the Communities & Leaderboards card.
  2. Tap the Leaderboards tab.
  3. Tap the gear icon on the Your Rank card to open Leaderboard Settings. You can also open Profile from the avatar at the top right of Home, scroll to Settings, and choose Leaderboard Settings.
  4. Under Display Mode, choose Real name or Anonymous.
  5. The confirm dialog states “This setting will be locked for 30 days after changing.” Confirm to apply it.

What you should see

Straight after confirming, the control is disabled and reads “Locked for N more days”, counting down from 30. Your own leaderboard row shows the new name on the next refresh.

When the 30 days are up, the control becomes usable again and the countdown text disappears.

What anonymous mode does not hide

Anonymous mode changes the name on the row. It does not change what is on the row.

Your shared metric values are still published under the handle. If you want the numbers gone as well, deselect them. See Choose what you share on the leaderboard.

If it doesn’t work

  • The toggle is greyed out. You changed it inside the last 30 days. The remaining days are printed next to it.
  • The leaderboard still shows your real name. Pull to refresh, or use the refresh control on the leaderboard. Rankings are cached and rebuild on the next fetch.
  • You want a different handle. The handle is generated and cannot be edited. Switching to real name and back would take two 30-day locks and still give you a generated handle.
  • You want your name off the leaderboard and out of your community. Anonymous mode covers leaderboards. Members of a community you joined see your profile name in the member list. See Leave a community if you want out of that too.
