Health and biometric data

Exactly which health values VEXA reads, why it never writes anything back to Apple Health or Health Connect, and how to withdraw the permission.

Same on every platform Updated

What this does

Sentinel reads your physiology so it can tell you when your body is about to make a decision your plan would not. That means VEXA asks your phone for a small set of health values.

Two facts up front. VEXA reads from your health platform and never writes to it. And health data is processed on the legal basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

Before you start

  • Heart rate is captured on a phone, watch or strap. An iPad has no heart-rate sensor of its own and cannot start a Sentinel session, but it does use Apple Health and asks for the permission in the same way an iPhone does. The web app never asks for health permissions and cannot read your health platform.
  • Permissions are granted outside VEXA. On iPhone and iPad that is the Apple Health prompt. On Android it is the Health Connect app.
  • VEXA asks for the health permission the first time you sign in on an iPhone or iPad. Nothing is read until you grant it.

What VEXA reads

On iPhone and iPad, through Apple Health, read-only:

heart rate, resting heart rate, heart rate variability (SDNN), sleep analysis, step count, active energy burned, Apple exercise time and your daily activity summary.

On Android, through Health Connect:

heart rate, resting heart rate, sleep and steps.

Chest straps and armbands connect over Bluetooth directly rather than through your health platform, and provide heart rate and, on some devices, the beat-to-beat intervals used to calculate HRV.

VEXA never writes to your health platform

This is what iOS shows you when it asks, unchanged:

There is a visible side effect of that watch behaviour. Apple only streams live heart rate during a workout, so an Apple Watch Sentinel session will add Exercise minutes to your Activity rings. The workout itself is thrown away and nothing is saved to Health. VEXA tells you this in a modal before your first session.

Who sees it

  • VEXA’s servers, to build your personal baseline and evaluate your Sentinel rules.
  • VEXA’s AI service, for the features listed in How VEXA uses AI with your data. Sentinel sends rounded values, not raw sensor streams.
  • Nobody else. The Privacy Policy states it as an absolute commitment: VEXA will never sell, rent or lease your health or biometric data to any third party.

Health data is not used for advertising, is not marketed to third parties, and is not used for anything outside coaching.

How long it is kept

Raw heart-rate readings are purged on a schedule. Nothing older than 365 days survives, and a job runs every day to enforce that. Your session records, baseline and daily aggregates are kept while your account exists and go when you delete it. Full table in What VEXA stores and for how long.

Steps

To review or withdraw the health permission:

  1. There is no health permission on the web. VEXA cannot read health data in a browser.
  2. To withdraw the permission, use the phone you granted it on.
  1. Open the iOS Settings app.
  2. Go to Privacy & Security, then Health.
  3. Select VEXA AI.
  4. Turn off the categories you no longer want shared.
  1. Open the iPadOS Settings app.
  2. Go to Privacy & Security, then Health.
  3. Select VEXA AI.
  4. Turn off the categories you no longer want shared.
  1. Open the Health Connect app on your phone.
  2. Open the app permissions list and select VEXA.
  3. Turn off the categories you no longer want shared.
  1. VEXA does not read health data on Android tablet. The Health Connect row in Profile opens a pane that is display only — there is nothing to grant or revoke there.
  2. To withdraw the permission, use the Health Connect app on your phone.

What you should see

Once the permission is off, Sentinel stops receiving new readings. On iPhone the Sentinel screen falls back to Connect HealthKit to enable Sentinel. Readings VEXA already stored stay until they age out or you delete your account.

If it doesn’t work

  • iOS will not show the permission prompt again. Once you decline it, iOS refuses to re-ask. Grant it in the iOS Settings app under Privacy & Security, then Health, then VEXA AI.
  • You revoked the permission but old numbers are still on screen. Those are readings VEXA already holds. Revoking stops collection, it does not erase history.
